WHAT WE DO
We help vulnerable and disadvantaged Kenyan youth and women improve their lives through access to quality education, menstrual supplies, and mental health support.

Through a thriving community partnership program that puts community participation at the center of all we do, we create and maintain successful programs that benefit our students in a holistic manner.

WOMEN'S
EMPOWERMENT
Every month, many post-pubescent girls lose between 5-6 days of school due to menstruation and related health factors. These add up to substantial losses in learning opportunities, which leads to poor performance and school drop-outs among girls. The associated psycho-social effects have proven, life-long impediments to girl's realization of their full potential.

Our objective is to improve the health, social and economic assets of girls and bridge the widening gender disparities between boys and girls in access to education, health and social hygiene and sanitation facilities, learning resources, and improved psychosocial life skills.

We distribute dignity kits to approximately 800 girls in 23 primary schools, three times a year. Each kit comprises of 3 disposable sanitary pads, 3 reusable pads, and 3 underwear. The distribution is accompanied by comprehensive health education.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
The students we support come from incredibly challenging backgrounds, most of whom have lost one or both parents, or come from abusive households and as such are prone to an array of mental health challenges. Our mental health program (currently in development) will connect with students through nature retreats and provide therapy and medication where needed.

WHO WE ARE
NYASHEP Education Trust is a Kenyan community-based program operating in Kendu Bay County. It was founded by Peter Liech, a professional safari guide who benefited from Christian Children Fund support (now Child Fund) for his high school education. The program began in 2003 as a give-back to the community, and the team has since grown to include his daughter Kathy Liech, as well as members of an American family with decades of experience in non-profits and mental health.
